The coating concept originates from the product engineering sector. The term "coating" is used to describe the surface smoothing process of work pieces.

In foundry engineering, "coatings" represent refractory finishings that are applied to moulds and cores to smooth the porous moulding surface. Finely milled refractory materials and highly refractory materials are used as basic materials for such coatings. The coating layer insulates the substrate and protects it against thermal stress caused by the molten metal.

Over the course of time, the original simple coating formulations have been replaced by complex multicomponent systems developed for various kinds of applications.

As one of the major worldwide suppliers of foundry chemical products, Hüttenes-Albertus offers refractory coatings for every application. There are presently over 100 products - whose properties are finely tuned to the needs of our customers - in production.

The continuous evolution of moulding sand binders leads to an equally continuous adaptation of the refractory coatings in order to cope with changing situations and demands, which is made possible by the use of new raw materials that are unceasingly tested and adapted as well.

The following table provides a brief overview of the main application possibilities of our product groups.

The worldwide cooperation with our customers in a spirit of mutual trust allows us to find an individual solution for every application.
